Rug Buying Guide

What's the difference between a wool rug and a polyester rug?

Both types of rugs are designed for real homes and are the easier fibres to care for. But they each offer something a little different.

Wool is a natural fibre that brings warmth, softness and beautiful texture and is most commonly hand made, while polyester is lower maintenance and an excellent choice for busy households looking for everyday practicality with a lower price point.

Which rug is best for homes with kids and pets?

All of our collections are chosen with everyday living in mind. If practicality is your priority, polyester is an excellent option. Also, our wool collections offer natural durability and are equally suited to homes that are lived in and loved every day.

Our only recommendation would be to avoid fibres like viscose, art silk or bamboo silk - these are more delicate when it comes to spills.

Do wool rugs shed?

A bit. Wool is a natural fibre, so some shedding is completely normal when your rug is new. This is a natural characteristic and will gradually reduce with regular vacuuming and everyday use.

Rugs that tend to shed a lot or "pill" like a wooly jumper are usually loosely woven or looped. So the wool is not spun into a more dense "string" that is more shed resistant. We do not stock these types of rugs, so don't worry!

How do I clean and care for my rug?

Regular vacuuming and prompt attention to spills will keep your rug looking its best. We also recommend occasional professional cleaning to help maintain its appearance and extend its life.

Will the rug colour look the same in my home?

Natural light, room colours and screen settings can all influence how a rug appears.

If you're unsure, we're always happy to help you compare colours or recommend the collection that best suits your space.
