Rug Buying Guide

Why choose a wool rug?

Wool is naturally soft, durable and designed to last for years of everyday living. It offers beautiful texture underfoot while bringing warmth and comfort to your home.

Do wool rugs shed?

A bit. Wool is a natural fibre, so some shedding is completely normal when your rug is new. This is a natural characteristic and will gradually reduce with regular vacuuming and everyday use.

Rugs that tend to shed a lot or "pill" like a wooly jumper are usually loosely woven or looped. So the wool is not spun into a more dense "string" that is more shed resistant. We do not stock these types of rugs, so don't worry!

Are wool rugs suitable for busy homes?

Absolutely. Wool is naturally resilient and has been used in homes for generations because of its durability. Our wool collections are designed to be lived on every day, not admired from a distance.

How do I clean and care for a wool rug?

Vacuum regularly using suction only (avoid aggressive rotating bristles) where possible and attend to spills as soon as they occur.

For a deeper clean, we recommend using a professional rug cleaner who specialises in wool rugs every couple of years.

Do I need rug underlay for a wool rug?

Underlay helps prevent movement, protects both your flooring and your rug, and improves comfort underfoot.

We always recommend underlay for rugs going on carpet. If your rug is going on a hard floor, then needing underlay will depend on how much furniture is going on the rug to anchor it down. When in doubt, get an underlay.
