HELP WITH BEDROOM RUGS

When it comes to decorating a bedroom, choosing the right rug is crucial. A well-chosen rug can tie the room together and add a cozy touch to the space. However, choosing the right size of rug for your bedroom can be a challenging sometimes.

A well-sized rug can transform a room and bring warmth and comfort, while a poorly-sized rug can make a space feel cramped and awkward.

How to find the right rug

Here are some tips to help you size up and pick a rug for your bedroom.

  1. Measure your room: Before you start looking for a rug, measure your room so we know the maximum dimensions we are working with. If you have a large bedroom with ample floor space, a larger rug can help anchor the space and create a cozy atmosphere. On the other hand, if your room is smaller, a smaller rug can help make the space feel more open and less cluttered.

  2. Consider the size of your bed: A rug should be large enough to extend beyond the bed on all sides. For a kid’s room or a single bed, a 150 x 240cm (small) rug should suffice, while a queen or king bed will require a larger rug, typically around 240 x 300cm (medium) or 270 x 360cm (large). Keep in mind that if you have bedside tables, they don’t need to sit on the rug, the rug should sit just in front of them.

  3. Consider the placement: It's also important to consider the placement of your furniture. If you have a low-profile bed or a platform bed, you can get away with a smaller rug since the bed won't take up as much vertical space. However, if you have a taller bed, you'll want to opt for a larger rug to balance out the height.

  4. Take into account the room's design: Consider the style and colour scheme of your room when choosing a rug. A patterned rug can add some visual interest to a neutral room, while a solid-coloured rug can complement a more colourful space. Also, if you have a minimalist or modern bedroom, a simple, solid-coloured rug can complement the space nicely. If you have a more traditional or eclectic style, a patterned rug can add interest and texture.

HOW WE STYLE BEDROOM RUGS: with all this considered, the way we style most bedroom rugs is by having two thirds of the bed on the length of the rug (ie the rug is positioned in front of the bed side tables), and the width of the rug is wide enough to allow your feet to land on the rug when you hop out of bed.

This creates a nice amount of rug surrounding the bed and fills the bedroom proportionately to the bed size.

By following these tips, you can find the perfect rug to bring comfort and style to your bedroom. And… if still in doubt, just come in for a chat or contact us - we’re all over it!
