Here are some tips to help you choose the right size rug for your dining room.

Measurements 

Firstly, measure the dimensions of your dining table, and add 50-60cm to each side. This will give you the minimum size rug you should be looking for.

For example, if your dining table is 2m long and 1.2 m wide, you should be looking for a rug that is at least 3m long and 2.2m wide. A standard 240 x 300cm (medium) sized rug would fit perfectly. 

The next step is to consider the size of your dining room (or, if open plan, the dining area). If you have a large dining room, you can go for a larger rug, which will help anchor the space and create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. On the other hand, if you have a smaller dining room, a smaller rug will be more appropriate, as it will help create the illusion of a larger space.

Consider Your Decor 

It's also important to consider the shape of your dining table. If you have a rectangular table, a rectangular rug will work best. If you have a round or square table, a circular or square rug will be more appropriate. While the quick and fast trick of measuring your table and adding 50-60cm sounds easy and tempting, be mindful to also consider proportions. This means taking into consideration the size of your room, the shape of your table, and the style of your dining room as well. This approach will help you select the perfect rug that will enhance the overall look and feel of the space.
