Useful Rug Info

We love educating people about rugs and this is where we answer all your pressing questions!

Storing rugs is certainly not new to us, I mean... we do have a warehouse full of rugs at all times!

But if you're planning on storing your rug, there are certainly some tips and tricks that will help you avoid damage and disappointment.

Here are our tips!

Clean Your Rug First

If you've recently had a professional rug wash, then awesome! If not, don't stress, just make sure you have vacuumed your rug before storing it.

Tell Us If Your Plan To Store Your Rug & How Long For

PRO TIP: if you are going to buy a rug from us but not going to use it straight away, let us know before your purchase!

First, there are a number of ways we can ship your rug to you - most commonly, either folded into a nice and manageable parcel or rolled like a big roll.

Folded rugs are fine for short term transportation and storage. Rolled rugs are better for long term storage. So we need to know this before we get your rug ready for you.

Second, there are also different ways we can wrap your rug to protect it. We need to know this ahead of time to help assist with the prevention of any potential moisture build up or fibre decay.

If you are storing the rug yourself:

  1. We don't recommend plastic wrapping unless it is for short term storage in a dry and cool area away from direct sunlight and temperature fluctuations, or if absorbent materials such as paper or moisture control beads have been rolled in with the rug.

  2. Otherwise, consider using wrapping material such as Tyvek to protect your rug while allowing it to breathe.

Where To Store Your Rug

Prevent dirt and moisture buildup with these simple tips:

  1. Keep your rug elevated - use wood pallets to lift your rug off the ground or have it standing upright.

  2. Store your rug in a cool, dry area. A well-ventilated, temperature-controlled space is optimal.

  3. Don't stack other objects onto your rug - prevent damage or kinks in the rug.

  4. Store your rug away from direct sunlight to avoid colour fading and sweating (yes, "sweating" - rugs sweat and it isn't great for your rug! Just like with out our white t-shirts, rugs can get sweat marks that may not be removable).

Check on Your Rug Regularly

Regular maintenance is crucial for preserving your rug.

  1. Check on your rug at least every month.

  2. Unroll it and inspect it - we're checking for bugs (yelp), any signs of moisture or even mould. If you have signs or moisture, then leave your rug unrolled for a little while to breathe and dry-off.

  3. If you have dust and cobwebs, then please do the obvious and vacuum your rug before rolling it back up again - you'll thank yourself in the long rug!

By following these simple steps, you are helping your rug stays clean, protected, and in good condition while in storage.
